INSTITUTE OF THERAPY
Institute of Therapy AMS of Ukraine was founded in 1980. In 1992 it was reorganized to the Ukrainian scientific experimental institute of therapy. Institute collaborate with such scientifical centers as SEI of molecular biology and genetics, physiology in honor of A.A. Prochanin, problems of cryobiology and cryomedicine, Institute of radiophysics and electronics. There are Ukrainian therapeutic schools, which are founded by academic L.T. Malaya, who is famous all over the world. Institute of Therapy works over the problems of atherosclerosis, diseases of lungs and kidneys, diseases of cardio-vascular system.

Historical review
The Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Narcology was established in 1922 as the Ukrainian Scientific Research Psychoneurological Institute. Since that time it has became a centre of devel-opment of a national psychoneurology, and in 1932 it was re-organized to the All-Ukrainian Psy-choneurological Academy.
Well known in USSR and abroad neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, physiologists, neuro-surgeons worked at the Institute: P.I. Kovalevskyy, V.O. Gilyarovskyy, M.V. Krayinskyy, S.M. Davydenkov, T.I. Yudin, Ye.O. Popov, M.F. Melnikov-Rozvedenkov, academicians O.M. Gryn-shteyn, I.M. Filimonov, O.I. Yushchenko, V.P. Protopopov, L.I. Smyrnov, O.R. Luriya, professors O.Y. Geymanovych, Z.Y. Geymanovych, G.D. Leshchenko, K.I. Platonov, M.S. Gorbachov, L.B. Lytvak, N.P. Tatarenko, A.Y. Ploticher, A.N. Shogam, I.Y. Shogam, N.K. Lipgart.
From 1977 to now Professor P.V. Voloshyn have been working on the position of a Director of the Institute. In 2000 the Institute was exchanged to the system of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Nowadays the Institute of Neurology, Psychiatry, and Narcology of Ukraine is a leading scientific-practical and scientific-methodological centre on problems of neurology, psychiatry, nar-cology, child psychoneurology, and medical psychology, which is well known both in Ukraine and countries of CIS and also abroad.
The Institute proceeds and develops traditions of the All-Ukrainian Psychoneurological Academy and carrying on its scientific activities on the base of an indissoluble connection between applied and fundamental researches. The Institute develops and strengthens liaisons with scientific and re-search institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Academy of Medical Sci-ences of Ukraine, the academy of medical sciences of Russian Federation and other countries of CIS, with USA, Germany, Canada, Poland, Austria, Finland. The Institute is working on orders of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, is taking part in projects of national space agencies of Ukraine and Russia, the Ukrainian Antarctic Centre.
Specialized scientific councils on neurology, psychiatry, and narcology of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine have been working on the base of the Institute since 1978 and 1994 respectively. The Directory Board of the Scientific Society of Neu-rologists, Psychiatrists, and Narcologists of Ukraine is situated here since 1984. Prof. P.V. Vo-loshyn, Director of the Institute, was elected and then re-elected several times for the position of the President of this Society since 1984. The Institute publishes a specialized journal “Ukrayinskyy Visnyk Psychonevrologiyi” (“Ukrainian Bulletin of Psychoneurology”).
Clinics of the Institution and the Consultative Polyclinics are equipped with modern devices and provide a specialized in-patient and out-patient service for adults and children with the most com-plex pathologies from all regions of Ukraine.
At the Institute national neurological and psychiatric schools were built, in which more than 100 Doctors of Sciences and approximately 700 Candidates of Sciences (Doctors of Philosophy) were prepared.
Today 17 Doctors of Sciences-Professors and 85 Candidates of Sciences (Ph.D.) are working at the Institute. 6 collaborators have a dignity of “The Honored Worker of Science and Techniques of Ukraine”, 3 collaborators are Laureates of the State Prize of Ukraine in area of sciences and tech-niques, 8 collaborators have a dignity of “The Honored Physician of Ukraine”, and 4 collaborators have a dignity of “The Honored Worker of Public Health of Ukraine”.
On the base of the Institute congresses of neurologists, psychiatrists, and narcologists of Ukraine are held. 1st, 2nd and 3rd National Congresses were held in 1997, 2002, and 2007 respectively. The Institute holds annually Workshops of the Scientific Society of Neurologists, Psychiatrists, and Narcologists of Ukraine, scientific-practical conferences, Schools for Young Psychiatrists, Schools for Young Neurologists, Schools for Young Child Neurologists, Schools for Young Narcologists.
An international authority of the Institute is growing. 20 collaborators are full and correspondent members of social home and foreign academies of sciences: Academy of Sciences of High School, Ecological Academy of Sciences, Russian Space Academy, Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, American Academy of Medicine and Psychiatry, New York Academy of Sciences. Scientific liai-sons with foreign scientists strengthen and spread continually.

on the base of S.P. Grigoriev’s Institute of medical radiology of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine
Founder and leader of the association: Nikolay Ivanovich Pilipenko – director of IMR, Head of Radiology Department of Kharkiv State Medical University, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, founder and editor-in-chief of the «Ukrainian Radiological Journal», member of Scientific Medical Council of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, member of National Commission on radiation protection of the population of Ukraine at Parliament of Ukraine, Head of the Problem Commission «Medical radiology» of Ministry of Health and Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, founder of Ukrainian Society of therapeutic radiologists and oncologists (USTRO, 1999), Main Specialist of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on radiation therapy, member of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), European Society of Radiation Oncologists (ESTRO), European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM), member of editorial college of the journal «Nuclear Medicine» (Europe), editorial college of the journal «Medical Radiology and Radiation Safety» (Russia). Author of a modern radiological national terminology, for the book-dictionary «Radiological terminology: Ukrainian, English, Russian» (1999) he was awarded with the Charter of Presidium of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Author of two discoveries.
The scientific-educational-practical association «Medical radiology» was created on the base of Kharkiv Research Institute of medical radiology and Department of Radiation Diagnostics, Radiation Therapy and Oncology of the Kharkiv Medical Institute in 1992. In 2001 it was renamed in scientific-educational-practical association «Radiation oncology» on the base of S.P. Grigoriev’s Institute of medical radiology of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. In the Association 30 employees of S.P. Grigoriev’s Institute of medical radiology of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, departments of radiology and oncology of the Kharkiv State Medical University are working.
Basic directions of activity: providing training and preparation of doctors of high qualification, improvement of health care for patients with oncologic pathology and radiation damages, and also speed-up and wide introduction of achievements of science in the practice of health services.
Scientific directions: development of technologies of radiation diagnostics and radiation therapy; development of methods of prophylaxis, diagnostics and treatment of oncologic diseases and radiation damages; development and improvement of dosimetric accompaniment of radiation therapy, optimization of the exposure of the population from radiation procedures, metrological provisions in medical industry with outputs sources of ionizing radiation.
International communications: in 2001-2003 on the order of Ukrainian Scientific-Technologic Center (financing sides: USA, Canada) together with National Scientific Center «Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology» undertook project «Technology of production of radiopharmaceuticals on the basis of technetium-99m». Since September, 2001 the project of IAEA UKR/6/005 «Ukrainian National postal TLD-audit and TLD-monitoring at a medical irradiation» with the purpose of creation of the national centralized system of audit and monitoring of doses at a medical irradiation with the use of methods of thermoluminescent dosimetry is performing. Oversea business trips were made by 8 employees of the Association, which took part in-process congresses, conferences, schools, worked on probation on workplaces in leader establishments of health care in Europe.
By the employees of Scientific-educational-practical association Radiation oncology» over 200 scientific works were published, 2 discoveries were done in industry of physics of x-rays, over 50 patents on inventions were got .
DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL GENETICS

The Department of Medical Genetics and the Ukrainian Institute of Clinical Genetics are situated on the base of the Kharkiv Specialized Medical Genetic Center and put together the united scientific medical educational complex.
Directions of the Center's work:
prenatal diagnostics;
mass and selective screening;
inherited metabolic diseases;
medical genetic counseling;
rehabilitationof the patients with hereditary pathology.
